Remus Factory Tour

15th Sep 2020

Remus Innovation GMBH was founded in 1990, becoming one of the global leaders in sports exhausts. A company home to 1000 employees and a production site of 40,000 square meters. Alongside the tuning market, Remus include in its portfolio Mercedes AMG, Porsche, Bentley, McLaren, Aston Martin, BMW and Ducati as its OEM clients.

So, when you get invited to take a peek behind the curtain of one of the leading exhaust manufacturers on the planet…you don’t say no!

Nestled in the beautiful Austrian landscape sits two gigantic buildings which house the manufacturer, design and distribution of Remus Exhaust Systems. Upon entering we were taken to one of the many conference rooms the HQ consists of and with a brief introduction to some of the staff, our tour began.

As you walk the halls and long corridors, the history and heritage of Remus is displayed in stunning art and graphic design upon the interior walls. As with any factory tour, you want to get right down to seeing what they’re working on and of course we wanted to see what new systems they were developing with newer vehicles.

The first stop was design and development of 2 wheelers, some of the bikes were under embargo so no cameras and picture taking was allowed. So, you know Top Secret, spy stuff; really makes you feel like you are responsible for state secrets. Surrounded by the sound of welding, people walking around in protective visors and vehicles under covers with sparks flying off, a sight to behold.

One thing you realise, when being in a factory of this size is that every single person has such an important role into bringing you a product of such high quality. We also got some behind the scenes access of the welding stations by asking nicely, even their protective gear looks like it came from a futuristic movie set.

As the tour went on, we were shown all the different stations assigned to the manufacturing of performance exhausts for Mercedes, Bentley, McLaren to name a few. Every station is focused specifically for that OEM brand and we were shown some of the Titanium systems for the McLaren, you could lift the entire system with a finger, that’s how light it was.

Again, we ran into some more embargo stuff. This time for the Aston Martin Valkyrie, yes you read that right. The entire exhaust system development was right infront of us, but no pictures or videos were allowed again. However this exhaust system can only be explained as a work of art.

Moving on, and this is what everyone was waiting for. Their Dyno Cell where they test, develop and fine tune the sound of their exhausts and let us tell you, it is Awesome! As soon you enter, it almost feels like you are under water, with the sound proofing your ears start playing tricks with you and it takes a few seconds to adjust. The dyno is right in the middle surrounded by huge space and tall sound proofed walls. Again, this is on a different level to anything we’ve seen before and it just looks awesome.

To end the already very exciting day, we had a sit down with the CEO Stephan Zöchling who talked us through some of the future plans, what it takes to be a leader in the performance and OE exhaust industry and to keep leading it.

To conclude, What goes into bringing you the product you love so much is a very hard working team of individuals dedicated to only one thing, bringing you the highest quality product with the best materials and not only today but innovating into the future.

The Remus catalogue is that extensive, we have highlights of it right here on awesomegti.com, but we have uploaded the full catalogue to our own Remus Exhaust site.
