Suspension: Front Axle Weights and how to find them.

Posted by Al Brown @ Awesome on 23rd Aug 2021

You may have noticed on some of our suspension product listings, that we require a Front Axle weight to get the correct part number for the Spring Kit or Coilover Kit you’re looking for.

These are Fairly simple to follow once you know where they are, but if you’re not aware of the location of this information it can be quite tricky to find.
For most cars, these are located either under the bonnet on one of the Strut Towers; or on the majority of later cars (i.e. vehicles released after 2005) they tend to be hidden in the door jamb of the passenger side front door.

Once you have found your vehicle’s Axle Weight Plate, you should be met with something similar to the above. Using the example above, the following information is displayed:

  • WVWZZZ… This is the vehicle’s Chassis number
  • 1950 kg… This is the vehicle’s Gross Weight
  • 3350 kg… This is the vehicle’s Gross Weight including the maximum permissible trailer load
  • 1 – 1040 kg… This is the vehicle’s Front Axle Weight
  • 2 – 0960 kg… This is the vehicle’s Rear Axle Weight

If you have found your Weight plate, but are still unsure how to read it, please do feel free to contact us directly and send us a photograph, or a transcript of the information on the Weight Plate itself and we’ll work to help you get the correct spring kit or coilover kit for your car.
